시편49장
1 뭇 백성들아 이를 들으라 세상의 거민들아 모두 귀를 기울이라 Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world,
2 귀천 빈부를 막론하고 다 들을지어다
both low and high, rich and poor alike:
3 내 입은 지혜를 말하겠고 내 마음은 명철을 작은 소리로 읊조리리로다 My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the utterance from my heart will give understanding.
4 내가 비유에 내 귀를 기울이고 수금으로 나의 오묘한 말을 풀리로다 I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle:
5 죄악이 나를 따라다니며 나를 에워싸는 환난의 날을 내가 어찌 두려워하랴 Why should I fear when evil days come, when wicked deceivers surround me-
6 자기의 재물을 의지하고 부유함을 자랑하는 자는
those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches?
7 아무도 자기의 형제를 구원하지 못하며 그를 위한 속전을 하나님께 바치지도 못할 것은 No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him-
8 그들의 생명을 속량하는 값이 너무 엄청나서 영원히 마련하지 못할 것임이니라 the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough-
9 그가 영원히 살아서 죽음을 보지 않을 것인가
that he should live on forever and not see decay.
10 그러나 그는 지혜 있는 자도 죽고 어리석고 무지한 자도 함께 망하며 그들의 재물은 남에게 남겨 두고 떠나는 것을 보게 되리로다 For all can see that wise men die; the foolish and the senseless alike perish and leave their wealth to others.
11 그러나 그들의 속 생각에 그들의 집은 영원히 있고 그들의 거처는 대대에 이르리라 하여 그들의 토지를 자기 이름으로 부르도다 Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after themselves.
12 사람은 존귀하나 장구하지 못함이여 멸망하는 짐승 같도다
But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish.
13 이것이 바로 어리석은 자들의 길이며 그들의 말을 기뻐하는 자들의 종말이로다 (셀라)
This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings. Selah
14 그들은 양 같이 스올에 두기로 작정되었으니 사망이 그들의 목자일 것이라 정직한 자들이 아침에 그들을 다스리리니 그들의 아름다움은 소멸하고 스올이 그들의 거처가 되리라
Like sheep they are destined for the grave, and death will feed on them. The upright will rule over them in the morning; their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions.
15 그러나 하나님은 나를 영접하시리니 이러므로 내 영혼을 스올의 권세에서 건져내시리로다 (셀라)
But God will redeem my life from the grave; he will surely take me to himself. Selah
16 사람이 치부하여 그의 집의 영광이 더할 때에 너는 두려워하지 말지어다 Do not be overawed when a man grows rich, when the splendor of his house increases;
17 그가 죽으매 가져가는 것이 없고 그의 영광이 그를 따라 내려가지 못함이로다
for he will take nothing with him when he dies, his splendor will not descend with him.
18 그가 비록 생시에 자기를 축하하며 스스로 좋게 함으로 사람들에게 칭찬을 받을지라도
Though while he lived he counted himself blessed-and men praise you when you prosper-
19 그들은 그들의 역대 조상들에게로 돌아가리니 영원히 빛을 보지 못하리로다 he will join the generation of his fathers, who will never see the light of life.
20 존귀하나 깨닫지 못하는 사람은 멸망하는 짐승 같도다
A man who has riches without understanding is like the beasts that perish.
