A grey sky over the moorland
It was much the same when we came this way

Those may be the very same cattle
Silhouetted on the horizon
Around that abandoned 4-wheel drive
Just where the land stops rising

So how have I been since that little occasion?
I’m sorry I’ve been out of touch
I’ve been working in a developing nation
And though it didn’t pay very much
My days were filled with urgent events
I thought I’d found my true calling
Like a bird caught mid-flight by a barbwire fence
I kept going for a time…before falling
But here I’m back on these moors again
Searching through the bracken and fern
For something precious I dropped here that day

I suppose you would say it’s a hopeless task
And even if I found it again
What would be left of a thing like that
Out in this wild, wild terrain?
But even though a year has gone by
Since that morning it was lost
It was made of something enduring and strong
To weather the rain and frost
I just wish I was holding it here in my hands
So our happiness could return
And we’ll never let it slip the way we did that day
