♥ To Be, Not To Be
                        -Shakespeare
To be, or not to be: that is the question:
 Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
 Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?
 To die: to sleep;
No more; and, by a sleep to say we end
 The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flash is heir to, tis a consummation
 Devoutly to be wished.
To die, to sleep;
 To sleep:perchance to dream:ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
 When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause.
 There's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
 For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The pangs of disprized love, the law's delay,
 The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
 When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin?
 Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
 But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country from whose bourn
 No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And make us rather bear those ills we have
 Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
 And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er
 With the pale cast of thought
And enterprises of great pith and moment
 With this regard their currents turn away,
And lose the name of action.

♥ 살 것이냐,  죽을 것이냐    -세익스피어 詩
살 것인가 아니면 죽을 것인가, 이것이 문제로다.
잔인한 운명의 돌팔매와 화살을
마음 속으로 참는 것이 더 고상한가,
아니면 고난의 물결에 맞서 무기를 들고 싸워
이를 물리쳐야 하는가,
죽는 것은 잠자는 것- 오직 그뿐.
만일 잠자는 것으로 육체가
상속받은 마음의 고통과
육체의 피치 못할 괴로움을 끝낼 수만 있다면,
그것이야말로 진심으로 바라는 바 극치로다.
죽음은 잠드는 것!
잠들면 꿈을 꾸겠지? 아, 그게 곤란해!
죽음이란 잠으로 해서 육체의 굴레를 벗어난다면
어떤 꿈들이 찾아올 것인지 그게 문제야.
이것이 우리를 주저하게 만들고,
또한 그것 때문에 이 무참한 인생을
끝까지 살아 가게 마련이다.
그렇지 않다면 그 누가 이 세상의 채찍과
비웃음과 권력자의 횡포와 세도가의 멸시와
변함 없는 사랑의 쓰라림과 끝없는 소송사태,
관리들의 오만함과
참을성 있는 유력자가 천한자로부터 받는 모욕을
한 자루의 단검으로 모두 해방시킬 수 있다면
그 누가 참겠는가?
이 무거운 짐을 지고 지루한 인생고에 신음하며
진땀 빼려 하겠는가.
사후(死後)의 무언가에 대한 두려움이 아니라면
나그네 한번 가서 돌아온 일 없는
미지의 나라가 의지를 흐르게 하고
그 미지의 나라로 날아가기보다는
오히려 겪어야 할 저 환란을
참게 하지 않는다면- 하여
미혹은 늘 우리를 겁장이로 만들고
그래서 선명스러운 우리 본래의 결단은
사색의 창백한 우울증으로 해서 병들어 버리고
하늘이라도 찌를 듯 웅대했던 대망도
잡념에 사로잡혀 가던 길이 어긋나고
행동이란 이름을 잃게 되고 마는 것이다.
