by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
┌불안한 꿈속에서 자갈이 깔린
│좁은 길을 혼자 걸었지
│가로등불 밑에 다다랐을 때
│차갑고 음습한 기운때문에
│옷깃을 세웠다네
│그때 반짝이는 네온 불빛이
│내 눈에 들어왔고
│그 네온 불빛은 밤의 어둠을 가르며
└침묵의 소리를 감싸안았다네
And in the naked light I saw

People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs
that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.
┌적나라한 불빛가운데서 만명 정도?
│아니 어쩌면 더 많은 사람들을
│나는 볼 수 있었다네
│그사람들은 마음에도 없는 이야기를 하고
│듣는체 하지만 실제로는 듣지않고
│심금을 울리지도 못하는
│노래들을 부르고 있었다네
│그 어느 누구도 감히
└침묵의 소리를 깨뜨릴 엄두를 내지 못했다네
"Fools" said I,
"You do not know silence
like a cancer grows.
Hear my words
that I might teach you,
Take my arms
that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops
fell and echoed
In the wells of silence
┌그래서 나는 '바보들
│암과도 같은 침묵이 자라고 있음을
│당신들은 알지 못하나요?

To the neon god they made.

│네온 神에게 허리굽혀 기도했다네
│그러자 네온이 만들어내는 단어중에
│경고의 문구가 번쩍이었지
│네온은 이렇게 말했어
│예언자의 말은 지하철의 벽이나
│싸구려 아파트 현관에 적혀있다' 라고...
